Acne Scar Removal

Acne scars are caused by the body’s inflammatory response to acne lesions. The most effectie way to prevent scars is to treat acne early, and over a long period of time if you need to.

A few effective scar treatments are available thtough dermatologic surgery. Speak to your Dermatologist before you consider scar treatment. Discuss whether or not scar treatment is justified in your case...

And how you emotionally feel about the scars.

The following Scar Removal Treatments are available:

Dermabrasion
Dermabration is generally thought of as the most effective treatment for acne scar removal. It involves removing the top layers of skin with an electrical machine that abrades the skin.

Usually, after the skin heals from the procedure, the surface feels smoother. It is used to minimize small scars, surgical scars, and acne scars. Superficial scars may be removed altogether, and deeper scars may be reduced in depth. Dermabrasion does not work for all kinds of scars.

For example, it may make ice-pick scars more noticeable if these scars are wider under the skin than on the surface.

Microdermabrasion
This is a new technique. It is a surface form of dermabrasion. Microdermabrasion uses aluminum oxide crystals passing through a vacuum tube to remove surface skin.

Only the very surface cells of the skin are removed, so no additional wound is created. You may have to have this procedure repeated often, and scars may not be significantly improved.

Autologous Fat Transfer
Fat is taken from another area on your own body and prepared for injection into your skin.

The fat is placed beneath the surface of the skin to elevate depressed scars. This method is used to correct deep contour defects caused by scarring from nodulocystic acne. You may have to have this procedure repeated more often too, as the fat could bereabsorbed into the skin over a period of a few months.

Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are used to minimize sun-damaged skin, irregular pigment, and superficial scars. The top layer of your skin is removed with a chemical application. By removing this top layer, your skin regenerates, often improving its appearance.

Laser Treatment
Lasers of various intensity and wavelength are used to recontour scar tissue and minimize the redness of skin around healed acne lesions. In many cases, a single treatment is all that's needed to achieve permanent results.

You must remember, however, that the skin absorbs the laser energy bursts, and you may have to go for post-treatment.

Collagen Injections
A type of collagen that is derived from purified bovine (cow) collagen and is injected beneath the skin to replace the body's natural collagen that has been lost.

Collagen treatment usually does not work as well for ice-pick scars and keloids. Injectable collagen is generally used to treat wrinkles, scars, and facial lines. A Cosmetic benefit from collagen injection usually lasts 3 to 6 months.

Acne Scar Removal can be very tricky, so make sure you weight up all the options before make a decision which options you're going to take.
